Not everyone can be a roofer or become a roofing contractor. They have to possess skills that allow them to be time efficient, cost effective, able to work with people well, and have a work ethic that people would be in awe of. It takes much more than knowing how to climb a ladder and use a hammer! Here is a list I have compiled to show just how much goes into being a roofing contractor.
* They first and foremost have a physical fitness level that will allow them to maintain stability, to move quickly, climb, bend and lift heavy loads.
* They have to have the endurance to spend hours working in extreme weather conditions such as heat or cold. As well as the ability to work at heights for long hours.
* They need a pretty extensive knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
* They need to have excellent carpentry skills and the ability to use various hand tools and equipment, such as scaffolds, taking safety rules into consideration.
* And lastly, because the roofing industry is constantly changing, the processes and materials are becoming more environmentally friendly. So being aware of the implications of new information and processes for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making is a must.
Roofers and roofing contractors are much more than handymen with ladders!
